Due fratelli olandesi, Ron e Ferdi Bolland – in arte “Bolland & Bolland” – nel 1981 incisero un pezzo che uscì dal paese dei tulipani e ottenne un discreto successo in tutta Europa: si intitolava “You’re in the Army now”.
Il brano arrivò alle orecchie di Francis Rossi, il cantante del gruppo inglese Status Quo: gli piacque, ma pensò di rimaneggiarlo un po’ e di rivestirlo con le sonorità tipiche della band, consone al sound anni ‘80. È il 1986 quando lo pubblicano in 45 giri e lo lanciano con un video che mostra la durezza della vita militare e riflette sull’inutilità della guerra. Il titolo viene accorciato: “In the Army now”. È un successo ancora maggiore: il pezzo arriva ai vertici delle hit parade in Austria, Germania, Svizzera e Irlanda, ed è secondo in Francia, Norvegia e Regno Unito.
